Ragan and Massey recently acquired exclusive licensee rights for UF-Riata, a novel diploid bahiagrass developed fall and early spring forage production by the University of Florida.

UF-Riata is the ideal choice for fall and early spring bahiagrass forage production for the Southeastern U.S. UF-Riata exhibits lower photoperiod sensitivity and improved leaf tissue cold tolerance compared to standard bahiagrass cultivars, resulting in greater forage production under short daylengths and during the cool season. It also yields grazable forage over a longer season than other bahiagrass cultivars available on the market, and shows excellent stand establishment and seedling vigor.

In university trials, UF-Riata out-performed other varieties of bahiagrass in every category, including cold tolerance and dry matter forage yield.

The University of Georgia conducted trials that show UF-Riata produces more forage monthly than other bahiagrasses and 44% more forage than Pensacola bahiagrass annually at over 18,000 lbs/acre.

In trials done by the University of Florida, Uf-Riata tolerated cold weather better than other bahiagrasses and produced more forage in the winter.
